Teenage Pau Cubarsi’s captain-like performance in Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Mallorca was praised by manager Xavi.
On Friday night, Barca secured all three points thanks to a late goal from 16-year-old Lamine Yamal. In addition to applauding the teenager’s performance, manager Xavi also highlighted the mature play of 17-year-old defender Cubarsi.
The manager of Barcelona said on La Liga TV: “He had two extremely strong strikers in front of him today. He played a fantastic game. It’s incredible how much of a captain he is playing. I thought the way he carried himself for the squad today was amazing.”
Notwithstanding Barca’s financial difficulties and subpar play this season—the Catalan giants are five points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid—the club’s future is extremely bright because of the academy players, like Pedri, Yamal, Gavi, and Cubarsi, who are all starting for the first team.
