Roberto Martinez, the head coach of Portugal, praised Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, for being a key part of his country’s success. The team led by Martinez has already made it to the EURO 24 after beating Slovakia 3-2 in their seventh Euro 24 playoff game.
On Monday, Portugal beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 0–5, keeping their lead in Group J of the Euro 24 qualifying.
Fernandes’s country dominated every game they played, scoring 32 goals and only giving up two.
The captain of the Red Devils has been very important for Portugal during the qualification process. He has played in all eight games. Fernandes has helped set up seven goals and scored five himself so far.
Fernandes has a lot of different skills that Martinez talked about with Record (h/t Manchester Evening News). What he said:
“Bruno Fernandes is a very good professional. He has seven assists and is smart enough to take on the traits of his teammates.” He can do a lot of things well, but he needs to learn how the game works first. I think his technical view of the game is the best there is, and I really enjoy his work. He can play a lot of different roles and is very important to us because he provides order and balance.
Before the new season began, United boss Erik ten Hag made Fernandes captain of the team. The 29-year-old has been a reliable player for Manchester United since he joined the team in January 2020. In all events, Fernandes has played 195 games for the Red Devils scored 66 goals, and set up 56 others.
