According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain will give priority to bolstering its midfield this summer. Several names have surfaced in the last few months. Gavi of FC Barcelona is one of them that the Parisians may target.
The Athletic revealed last month that Gavi was being considered by PSG as a possible summer transfer. The player is also admired by Luis Enrique and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, which lends credibility to the report.
The reports also indicate that Barcelona views Gavi as a priceless asset, but the club’s financial difficulties complicate matters. Regarding the possibility of chasing the Spanish footballer, journalist Ben Jacobs gave an update.
For CaughtOffside, Jacobs stated, “PSG is not currently following De Jong” (h/t Le10Sport). In actuality, PSG would prefer Gavi, another FC Barcelona player.
Given that Barcelona views Gavi as a future captain and nearly invincible player, it would be a risky move. Furthermore, it is obvious that the French champions have no intention of fulfilling Gavi’s one billion euro release clause.
It will be interesting to watch the tactical decisions they make for the team as they negotiate the post-Kylian Mbappé era. Taking advantage of Barcelona’s financial position, PSG has already signed two players from the Spanish team and could sign a third.
This summer, the Parisians will have money to spend and, should the right player come along, they may be able to sign a few big-name stars.
