After taking a picture of himself at a ski area, Raphael Varane is in a tough spot with Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United.

The 30-year-old French World Cup winner shared a picture on Instagram on Thursday of himself enjoying his free time at an unknown snowy location. This week, all United players have had off.

It is known that United doesn’t let their players go skiing during the season because they could hurt themselves.

The picture only shows the defender standing there, with skiers and hills in the background. When he gets back to Old Trafford, he will no doubt be questioned.

Ten Hag, the manager, will be furious if he finds out that the center-back, who often gets hurt, was careless when he went skiing.

Most clubs in Europe don’t allow the winter sport because they’re afraid that stars will get seriously hurt.

Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper for Bayern Munich, broke his leg in a freak accident during the winter break in the Bundesliga in 2022. He had just returned from Germany’s terrible World Cup campaign in Qatar.

In all, Neuer was out for 10 months.

A representative for Varane said last night that he hadn’t been skiing at the lodge.

But things may only get worse for Varane, who went from Real Madrid to Old Trafford in July 2021 for £42 million. He has won the Champions League four times.

There are already rumors that Varane wants to leave United. Clubs in the Saudi Pro League and the German winners Bayern Munich are both interested in signing him.

There is one more year that the club can add to Varane’s £340,000-a-week deal, but the deal ends this season.

Man Utd has used Varane 18 times this season, across all categories.

The defender has been in and out of the team. At one point, Varane fell behind Harry Maguire in the team’s hierarchy.

He has played in five of the club’s last six games, missing only one because he was sick.
