Real Madrid have been forced to reshuffle after losing Manchester United centre-back Leny Yoro, and are once again on the lookout for the best young defenders. One of those frequently linked with Los Blancos is Vitor Reis.
The 18-year-old Brazilian is only just starting his professional career, but Real Madrid have a history of signing talented Brazilians, often around the same age as Reis. Diario AS say he will not be allowed to leave for less than €22m, but given the price tag of some young defenders – Yoro could cost United more than €60m – it looks like a bargain.
The Madrid-based paper also spoke to the defender about Los Blancos’ interest.
“Today, I am completely thinking about Palmeiras, about making my history at the club. I try to think day by day, I am still very young and I am only at the beginning of my professional career. I want to win titles with Palmeiras and consolidate my position.”
Reis explained that he admires Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, players he sees as somewhat similar to himself, while his long-term goal is to break into the Brazil national team. He was also asked about his main qualities.
“I believe that we must always work to improve in all aspects. With time and experience, it is natural that we can evolve. I have a style of play that contributes to bringing the ball out from the back, good height for heading and also a leadership aspect that has accompanied me since I was young in the lower divisions. I think the mental aspect also helps a lot and is something that has developed in recent months.”
Reis has a €100 million release clause in his contract, and as O Verdao has shown with Endrick Felipe and Estevao Willian, they can keep interested parties at bay for a large transfer fee. However, if Real Madrid decide that he is the one, Los Blancos will be confident of beating their opponents, with Yoro being the only recent blemish on their books.
