Real Madrid has started including a buyback provision or retaining 50% of a player’s rights in recent years when they sell one of their talented young players, giving them some measure of control over the player’s future.
The Merengues used the same approach this past summer while saying farewell to promising possibilities like Sergio Arribas and Carlos Dotor, among others.
With the use of a similar clause, Los Blancos were able to re-sign Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano for merely €5 million, and Real Madrid might employ the same strategy to re-sign another player they had previously sold.
Tracking Takefusa Kubo for Real Madrid
Indeed, according to SPORT, Real Madrid is keeping a close eye on Takefusa Kubo’s growth and progress at Real Sociedad and may eventually contemplate a transfer for him.
Kubo was first acquired by Los Blancos in the summer of 2019 and was repeatedly loaned out before the Spanish club parted ways with the Japanese winger permanently in 2022.
For a cost of €6 million, the Spanish capital club sold Kubo to Real Sociedad while keeping 50% of the player’s rights.
The Japanese international joined Sociedad and has developed into an important part of Imanol Alguacil’s team, scoring 12 goals and dishing out ten assists in 48 games.

In recent years, when Real Madrid sell talented youngsters from their club, they make sure to insert a buyback clause in the deal or retain 50% of the player’s rights, so that they have some degree of control over the future.

Indeed, as per SPORT, Real Madrid are closely tracking the progress and development of Takefusa Kubo at Real Sociedad and could consider a move for him in the future.
Having signed Kubo back in the summer of 2019, Los Blancos constantly farmed him out on loan before parting ways with the Japanese winger permanently in 2022.
The Spanish capital club sold Kubo to Real Sociedad for a fee of €6 million but retained 50% rights of the 22-year-old.
Since signing for Sociedad, the Japanese international has grown into a vital cog in Imanol Alguacil’s side, racking up 12 goals and ten assists from 48 matches.

Real Madrid has been keenly watching Kubo’s development as he has been on fire this new season, scoring three goals and dishing out an assist in the first four La Liga games.
A €60 million release clause exists for Kubo.

Real Madrid could still sign the winger for €30 million if they retained 50% of his rights, which is a possibility they are currently considering.
Several clubs, notably Napoli, expressed interest in Kubo this past summer, but nothing tangible happened.
More suitors, maybe including Real Madrid, could line up if he maintains his upward trend.
