RED TEAM: Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw warmly welcome their England teammates while Man Utd star Kobbie Mainoo is absent

Harry Maguire has decided not to take a summer vacation this year in order to prepare for Euro 2024.

The centre-back, who was born in 1993, has not played for Manchester United since the 1-1 draw against Burnley on April 27 owing to a muscle ailment.

He missed the FA Cup final’s 2-1 triumph over Manchester City, but he hopes to be at his best for England’s first Euro 2024 match against Serbia on June 16 in Gelsenkirchen.

The former Leicester City player is always Gareth Southgate’s first choice in defence. Maguire, along with John Stones, was named to the preliminary 33-player roster.

According to the Daily Mail, Maguire was at Middlesbrough on Tuesday rather than travelling to relieve tension following a difficult season.

In addition to the Manchester United defence, Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon and teammate Luke Shaw made appearances.

These names are all in the process of recovering from injuries. All three will perform three training sessions a day to prove that they are fit enough to attend the Euros.

The Three Lions will play a friendly against Bosnia at St James’ Park on Monday, before facing Iceland at Wembley on June 7.

After that, the final 26 names of the England team will go to Germany and be stationed at the Weimarer Land Span and Golf concentration camp.

Southgate spoke out in support of Maguire, who was jeered by Scottish fans during England’s 3-1 win in September.

“Maguire is a fantastic player in one of the most successful Three Lions teams that England has ever produced,” the 53-year-old coach shared.

“Should we let him endure those insults? It’s a joke. It makes me angry. Luckily, Maguire still has support from the dressing room.”
