Romelu Lukaku scored on his first game for Napoli, which helped Antonio Conte’s team come back from behind to beat Parma, who had just been promoted.
Lukaku moved from Chelsea to Napoli for £38 million on Thursday. He was part of the Blues’ “bomb squad” that was for sale.
The Belgian player made the move to Napoli official. He had been on loan at Inter Milan and Roma over the last two seasons in Serie A.
Lukaku was paired with Conte at Napoli, where he used to work for Inter Milan. The forward made an immediate impact for Conte on Saturday.
After coming off the bench to start the game against promoted Parma, the 31-year-old saw the away team take an unexpected lead.
Because Ange-Yoan Bonny scored a penalty in the 19th minute, it looked like Parma would win for the second time this season. They beat Milan last week and are a tough team.
The away team had chances to make the lead bigger, but when Lukaku came on after halftime, Napoli looked more dangerous.
The tide changed a lot when Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki got a second yellow card for a foul on David Neres. With no other goalkeepers available, defender Enrico Del Prato took over in goal.
It looked like Napoli got a penalty for a hit on Giovanni Simeone, but VAR changed the call in the 90th minute.
But Lukaku tied the game two minutes later with a low shot from 12 yards after Leonardo Spinazzolla played a through ball. In the 96th minute, Andre Zambo Anguissa’s header sealed the win in front of a roaring home crowd.
Lukaku told DAZN, “It is an honor to play for this club, these fans, and these lads, who gave me a really warm welcome.” Lukaku used to play forward for Chelsea and AS Roma.
The work we put into training paid off, we worked hard. It’s become a habit for me to score on my first game, but we’re still happy that we won.
“I’m glad, but now we have to work hard to keep winning.”
After their second win of the season, Conte’s team moved up to fourth place in the standings.
