Ronald Araujo, a defender for Barcelona, has been having fun since Tuesday when he helped Uruguay beat Brazil 2-0 in World Cup qualifying.
Uruguay beat Brazil 2-1 thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Nicolas de la Cruz. They are now in second place, behind Argentina, but ahead of Brazil on goal difference.
The center-back played well again last night against Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Neymar. He will be thrilled that his team kept a clean sheet.
Araujo did get a yellow card early, but that was the only bad thing about the Barcelona defender’s great night.
Game numbers can help you understand things a little better. He won four of the five aerial duels he had, played seven defensive plays, gave up only one foul, made five clearances, won six of his individual duels, and made six passes in the final third.
After the game, Araujo looked very happy. He had helped Uruguay beat Brazil for the first time in 22 years.
“I missed a lot of dates and the World Cup,” he said after the game.
“You want to be here all the time, but this is football stuff.” There are times when people get hurt. I will always do what I can to help my country and my team. Uruguay, let’s go.”
Araujo should feel great about the win as he goes back to Barcelona. His next match will be in El Clasico in two weeks, against Vinicius and Rodrygo.
