ο»ΏBefore tonight’s game against Manchester City, sports fans put up a big sign to honor Ruben Amorim.
It was Amorim’s last home game as manager of the Portuguese giants before he moved to Manchester United. He is 39 years old.
Sporting fans didn’t show any anger toward their departing coach; instead, they were very thankful.
.
Before the game started, they put up a huge sign that was even bigger than the center circle.
It had a picture of Amorim with his arms crossed and the five awards he won as manager of Sporting.
“Obrigado,” which is Portuguese for “thank you,” was written on the flag.
From 2020 to 2021, Amorim was the manager of Sporting after a season at Braga.
He won two league wins, two domestic cups, and one Super Cup as their manager.
He will be in charge of his last game as manager on Sunday, when they play their old team, Braga.
Then, on Monday, Amorim will start his official job as manager of Manchester United.
There was a strange conversation between Amorim and a British reporter before the game against Man City.
A reporter from Sky Sports, Gary Cotterill, asked Amorim about the possibility of beating City, a team that plays against United.
When the new manager of Manchester United politely refused to speak English, Cotterill said something strange: “It’s like giving your English fans the cold shoulder.”
.
The comment made Amorim laugh, and a lot of his friends agreed with him.
