Fans put up a big sign to remember Ruben Amorim before tonight’s game against Manchester City.
Amorim’s last home game as boss of the big Portuguese team before he joined Manchester United. He’s 39 years old.
Fans of Sporting didn’t get mad at their coach when he left; instead, they were very grateful.
.
They put up a huge sign that was even bigger than the center circle before the game.
It showed Amorim with his arms crossed and the five awards he won as Sporting’s boss.
A Portuguese word that means “thank you” was written on the flag.
Amorim was the boss of Sporting from 2020 to 2021. Before that, he had been at Braga for a season.
As their boss, he won two league titles, two domestic cups, and one Super Cup.
On Sunday, they play their old team, Braga, in his last game as boss.
Then, Amorim will start his real job as boss of Manchester United on Monday.
The talk between Amorim and a British reporter before the game against Man City was very strange.
It was Gary Cotterill from Sky Sports who asked Amorim if it was possible to beat City, a team that plays United.
Cotterill said something strange when the new boss of Manchester United politely refused to speak English: “It’s like giving your English fans the cold shoulder.”
.
What they said made Amorim laugh, and many of his friends agreed.
