Rashford has been told by Ruben Amorim to show him that he wants to get back to his best at Manchester United.
Rashford scored the first goal 80 seconds into Amorim’s first game as head coach, which was at Ipswich on Sunday. The game ended in a 1-1 draw at Portman Road.
Because he wasn’t picked for England again, the 27-year-old star went to New York during the break, so he missed Amorim’s arrival at United.
The previous manager of Sporting Lisbon wouldn’t say anything bad about Rashford, but he did say that he would have handled the situation differently.
Rashford scored 30 goals in Erik Ten Hag’s first season as United manager, in 2022–23. That number dropped to eight goals the following season, and he has already scored four goals this season.
Rashford played as a center forward for Amorim in his 3-4-3 system against Ipswich. “I will try to help him,” Amorim said. For that game in particular, that spot is not the best one for him. It felt like we were fighting two huge people because we had to kick the ball so many times with a lot of force.
“Like with the other players, we’ll try to find the best solution for him.” But he has to be Marcus first if he wants to go back to that time. The staff, the club, and the fans will all help him because he’s a Manchester United fan. He has to be the first person to want it, though.
Amorim said it’s worrying that United has only scored 13 goals in 12 Premier League games this season.
“Of course that’s a worry, but I think we need to get better as a team because we have great players who can score a lot of goals,” he said.
“But in the second half, you could feel it.” The ball is in our hands, but we weren’t scared.
“Maybe it’s because we worked all week on build-up and then the rest didn’t work.”
“We will work to get better as a team, and Rasmus (Hojlund), Josh (Zirkzee), and Rash will score more goals. Bruno Fernandes needs to score more goals too!” Amad Diallo needs to be closer to the goal.
“These guys all need to get better, and we can score a lot of goals.” They can score goals, and our team needs to get better.
