RUUD VAN NISTELROOY has been named as the new manager of Leicester City.
The Dutchman, 48, is back in charge of a team right away after being Manchester United’s acting manager after Erik ten Hag was fired.
The Foxes’ previous manager, Steve Cooper, was fired after a 2-1 loss to Chelsea, and Van Nistelrooy has taken over as manager.
His first game as manager will be on Tuesday, when they play West Ham. The Dutchman will be in the stands for their game against Brentford tomorrow.
Van Nistelrooy said of his move to Leicester, “I’m proud and excited.” Every person I talk to is excited about Leicester City Football Club.
“They have great stories about the great people who work at the club and the great fans. Also, the club’s recent history is impressive.”
“I can’t wait to begin, meet everyone, and do everything I can for the football club.”
He also said that he talked to Enzo Maresca, who used to work for the Foxes and is now the manager of Chelsea, about taking the job. Maresca was Van Nistelrooy’s teammate at Malaga.
“When the interest came up, the first person I called was Enzo,” he said. He was so sure of himself about it. He loved every minute of his time.
“This sounds like a club you’d want to join when you hear it.
“Since people were interested, I called him and asked him more specific questions about the Club, its structures, the people who work there, the team, the stadium, the fans, the town, and the area. It was a great conversation.”
“I enjoy talking to him all the time.”
It was also said by Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, “It is my pleasure to welcome Ruud to Leicester City.”
“He is coming to a Club with a lot of history, passionate fans, and a talented team. We are all looking forward to seeing what kind of impact he can have as we start this new chapter together.”
“Ruud’s experience, knowledge, and winning mentality will undoubtedly bring great value to us, and we look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and our club.”
There were two times when Van Nistelrooy beat Cooper’s Leciester while he was on loan to Manchester United.
In the Carabao Cup on October 30, they played each other. The Red Devils won 5-2.
After only 11 days, he beat Leicester again 3-0 in the Premier League.
Cooper led Leicester to the Championship title last season, but he only won two of his 12 Premier League games in charge. He took over from Enzo Maresca in the summer.
A sign that said “Enzo I miss you” was seen at the players’ Christmas party next to them. It looked like they missed their old boss.
The team flew off to their holiday party in Copenhagen just hours after losing to Chelsea. Cooper signed them off, but he didn’t know he was about to be fired.
The Telegraph says that Cooper had disagreements with Jannik Vestergaard, Harry Winks, and Hamza Choudhury while he was in charge at the King Power for 157 days. At one point, Cooper even kicked Vestergaard out of training.
The Foxes are 16th in the Premier League table, one point above the bottom three teams.
Before becoming a coach at Old Trafford, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player was in charge of PSV Eindhoven.
He was in charge of 51 games and won 33 of them. In 2023, he won the KNVB Cup.
Some people in charge didn’t back Van Nistelrooy, so he quit a week before the end of that season.
After Cooper was fired, Leicester was tied to both Graham Potter and David Moyes.
But Van Nistelrooy was quickly chosen as the main player the club wanted, and they now have him.
