The grey trainers from New Balance have remained popular, having once been accepted as a versatile colour combination that suited the 1970s asphalt running courses. It now demonstrates a thoughtful, refined design approach that appeals to a variety of sport and fashion sensibilities.
In the most recent BSTN campaign, Mané embodies the idea of “no frills, no fuss” by donning the adaptable New Balance 550 from the diverse “Moon Daze” pack. In place of his football gear, he is shown in the pictures wearing a sweatsuit and gilet puffer that complement the gray-blue hues of the sneaker.
Though the business is widely known to have ties to the colour family and often employs polished tones in lookbooks and shop designs, grey is still vital to the New Balance brand. The ad uses images of Mané facing a white background that switches between full-color and grayscale. This is a part of BSTN’s continuous investigation into creative colour theory.
