A deal ‘in principle’ has been reached by Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho to return on loan to the German team.
Prior to the January transfer window opening, the two teams were in negotiations, with United preferring a long-term agreement for the winger. Dortmund, on the other hand, has been chasing a short-term move, and the two sides have now come to an understanding.
All parties are willing to close the deal at this point, according to Sky Sports News. Since many issues need to be finalized, no timeline or date has been established.
Dortmund had been hoping the 23-year-old Sancho would come to their Marbella training camp, which is now in mild weather. But, there is “no guarantee” that the documents will be finalized and signed by this weekend’s conclusion. The Bundesliga team’s next game is away at Darmstadt 98 on January 13.
After spending £73 million on a transfer to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021, the winger was sidelined for the majority of the 2023–24 season. That came after he openly criticized Erik ten Hag on social media after the Dutch manager disclosed that he did not choose him for the Arsenal match due to his lackluster performance in practice.
“Please don’t believe everything you read!” he posted. I won’t put up with people making up stories that are wholly false. I’ve performed admirably this week in my training.”
Though Sancho would later remove the upload, the incident marked the end of his senior year at the club. The former England footballer was made to train with the Academy players instead of the first team after it was reported that he had failed to apologize for his behavior.
Nonetheless, he is still well-liked in Germany, where he had led Dortmund to 50 goals in 137 games during a four-year period. Impressing at the postponed Euro 2020 competition, he made his way into the national team by virtue of his form, which led to his signing with United.
Nevertheless, he struggled to live up to his transfer value during his first two seasons at Manchester. That’s even though he was a member of the team that won the League Cup the previous season, snapping a six-year trophy drought.
