Due to a somewhat injured knee ligament, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out for three weeks, the team said on Tuesday.
During Liverpool’s 2-0 victory against Arsenal in an FA Cup third-round match on Sunday, the right-back hyperextended his knee.
Prior to the team’s League Cup semifinal first leg against Fulham at Anfield on Wednesday, assistant manager Pep Lijnders announced that tests had revealed a “little tear” to the lateral ligament.
“A major blow—he will likely be out for three weeks,” Lijnders stated during a press briefing. “He was one of our most important players.”
With three points in front of them in the Premier League, Liverpool was already gearing up for a lengthy spell without their leading scorer, Mohamed Salah, who is currently representing Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Joel Matip, a central defender, is also out for Jurgen Klopp’s club, as are left-backs Andy Robertson (shoulder) and Kostas Tsimikas (collarbone) (ACL).
Virgil van Dijk can play on Wednesday after being unwell and missing the match against Arsenal.
