Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez expressed the frustration within the dressing room following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford. The loss saw Dean Huijsen open the scoring, followed by a penalty from Justin Kluivert and a third goal by Antoine Semenyo, marking a tough day for new manager Ruben Amorim.
Martinez pointed fingers at his teammates for not capitalizing on opportunities and acknowledged that the team’s performance left much to be desired. “We are so angry with this kind of situation,” he said, emphasizing the need to improve on set-pieces. He noted that if Bournemouth hadn’t scored their first goal from a set-piece, the game could have unfolded differently. “We missed many chances today. We have to score,” he added, stressing the urgency for change.
Despite criticism of his own performances and those of his teammates, the 27-year-old remained committed to the belief that better results would come. “In this kind of situation, we have to show personality and character,” he stated, recognizing the pressure at a club with high expectations. He acknowledged the fans’ impatience but insisted, “We are the only ones who can change it.”
Martinez highlighted the importance of unity, stating, “We win together, we lose together.” He expressed confidence in the group and the process ahead, despite the team’s current position in the bottom half of the Premier League table—sitting 13th, the lowest for the club since the 1989-90 season.
Looking ahead, United will face relegation-threatened Wolves at Molineux on Boxing Day. Amorim, aware of the challenges ahead, remained tight-lipped about the potential return of Marcus Rashford to the squad after his recent absence. “I always expected the job to be tough, especially in these busy months,” he said, preparing for the challenges that lie ahead.
