Barcelona is thinking about making an offer for Andrey Santos, a star player for Chelsea who has been having trouble getting playing time at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

According to Sport (h/t ESPN), the Catalan giants had already decided that Santos would be the best player to replace Sergio Busquets. As of now, Oriol Romeu is the only senior defensive player the club has left behind with Busquets leaving.

Deco, the club’s sporting director, said that he has a great friendship with Giuliano Bertolucci, Santos’ agent. This could help Barcelona get the Blues player.

The club did try to sign the player in July, but Oriol Romeu was signed instead. The Catalan club tried to sign the Brazilian midfielder in July but failed. They might try again in January when the young player is having trouble getting playing time at Nottingham Forest.

The West Londoners will have to decide if the player will play in any Premier League games this season. What if he doesn’t? We can loan him to Barcelona, who have a history of helping young players grow. Then again, it’s not clear if the Spanish would rather have a loan deal than a final move.

At the Nou Camp, players like Gavi, Pedri, Fermin Lopez, and now Lamine Yamal have come on like a storm. As La Masia keeps making a comeback, Santos might also get the chance to play with such skilled midfielders.

It’s not clear, though, whether they want to hire him forever or just for a short time. Since we would expect a high price, Barcelona probably doesn’t have the money to sign him permanently.

But if he doesn’t get much game time at Forest, Chelsea will have to make a decision. It would be a waste for Andrey Santos to sit on the bench all day, and not playing often will only slow his growth.

Steve Cooper should give the Brazilian player enough playing time, depending on how things go. If not, we’ll have to wait and see how Chelsea reacts.
