James Maddison sought to wound up Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold while he was reporting for England duty.
During the opening few weeks of the Premier League season, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team has been led by their playmaker, who is now leading the league standings heading into the international break.
Well-known for his stunts on social media, Maddison pulled off another one when he uploaded a photo of himself and Alexander-Arnold in the St. George’s Park gym.
By labelling the image, “still asking for a replay,” he made fun of Liverpool’s anguish after their initial goal in Tottenham’s recent victory over the Reds was disallowed and their subsequent demands for a repeat of the controversial encounter.
Luis Diaz’s goal was incorrectly disallowed for offside, and in the last seconds of play, Spurs overcame Liverpool 2-1.

In response to the outcry over the error, the PGMOL apologized and made audio from the VAR ruling available.
Due to the mistake, Klopp asked for the match to be replayed; however, this request was turned down, and the original result of the game was kept.
At the time, the Reds boss said there should have been solutions for the predicament.
“As a football enthusiast, not as Liverpool’s manager, I think there should only be one outcome—a replay.”
It is argued that if it did, everyone would have to beg for it, which is probably not going to happen. This is unmatched, in my opinion.
When covering Gareth Southgate’s team on Sunday, Maddison couldn’t resist cracking a lighter joke despite Liverpool trailed Brighton by a goal.
England’s friendly encounter against Australia on Friday will kick off their week. They have a Euro 2024 qualifying match at Wembley on Tuesday against Italy.
Last week, following VAR’s denial of Liverpool’s apparent goal, Jurgen Klopp declared that Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham ought to be replayed.
