Bruno Fernandes shines as Portugal destroys Turkiye in their Euro 2024 matchup.
Portugal defeated Turkiye 3-0 on Saturday night at Signal Iduna Park thanks in large part to another outstanding effort from Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.
After grabbing hold of a loose ball inside the penalty area and firing a powerful left-footed shot from 15 yards, Bernardo Silva opened the score just 21 minutes into the match.
Just before the half-hour mark, Turkiye made a hilarious defensive blunder that doubled Portugal’s lead.
After Cristiano Ronaldo was played in behind the opposition defenders and squared the ball to Fernandes, who had the goal at his mercy, the Selecao’s triumph was sealed in the second half.
Portugal will now move on to the competition’s knockout stages after winning Group F.
Fernandes recorded 55 touches of the ball while he was on the pitch. With 30 of the 39 passes he attempted finding their teammates, he completed passes at a 77% rate.
With one of his two attempted crosses and both of his long balls, the playmaker found his intended target.
In all, he had three shots in his repertoire. Two were off-target and did not put United teammate Altay Bayindir, who played in goal for Turkiye, in any kind of test.
Fernandes started one dribble but did not finish it.
The 29-year-old midfield player engaged in nine ground battles and emerged victorious six times. He engaged in two aerial duels, winning one.
Fernandes made three tackles in addition to blocking one shot.
The Red Devils’ captain gave a terrific and comprehensive performance. Portugal will play Georgia in their upcoming assignment. Given that winning the group is guaranteed, Roberto Martinez will have an opportunity to rest his main players, including Fernandes.
