Manchester United misfit Monday night, Getafe defeated Granada 2-0 in La Liga thanks to another goal from Mason Greenwood.
After agreeing with the club that it would be best for him to resume his career somewhere following his arrest on suspicion of several offenses, including attempted rape, in January 2022, Greenwood left Old Trafford on loan last summer.
In February 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service subsequently withdrew the allegations; however, Greenwood was loaned to Getafe, where he has flourished in his first season in Spain.
He opened the score on Monday with a deft near-post finish to score his fourth league goal of the year.
Greenwood cut inside onto his preferred left foot and clipped a shot from just inside the area that reached the corner of the net and wrong-footed goalkeeper Augusto Batalla.
Greenwood led his team to a comfortable victory and wheeled out towards the corner flag to celebrate with his teammates.
Getafe took the lead thanks to his goal in the 21st minute, and 15 minutes later, fellow forward Borja Mayoral doubled the home team’s advantage.
Getafe easily concluded the match and holds onto their 10th-place position, while Granada continues to play in the relegation zone, six points outside of safety.
Greenwood’s contract with United expires in June 2025, while his loan agreement with Getafe ends this summer.
However, it is said that the 22-year-old is eager to remain in Spain and has informed his advisors that a £40 million transfer to Barcelona would be his ideal move.
Greenwood’s progress at Getafe is reportedly being monitored by Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as they consider launching an approach for the striker.
