Mason Greenwood might be included as a makeweight, which would give Manchester United a discount on Gleison Bremer, a defender for Juventus, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Since Raphael Varane’s contract is set to expire at the end of June, it is expected that the Red Devils would sign a new center-back this summer.
The Italian media has named Bremer as their primary target, and Gazzetta dello Sport (page 15) suggests the Bianconeri may leverage this interest to sign Greenwood.
The Englishman is trying to split ways with United. The giants of Turin intend to take advantage of this by suggesting a partial exchange agreement involving Bremer and Greenwood.
Bremer could be signed by Man Utd in exchange for Greenwood.
Bremer has shown to be one of Serie A’s most reliable center backs. In December of last year, he inked a new deal. The €65–70 million release clause will only be in effect until June 2025.
As a result, the Bianconeri will be well-positioned to bargain this summer. Given their problems with Financial Fair Play, we don’t think United will pay Bremer anywhere near €65 million.
The Red Devils are currently in danger of missing out on the Champions League the next season, which might make them even more financially constrained for the summer transfer window.
They would be OK with a part-exchange agreement incorporating Greenwood. The attacker has no future with the Red Devils, as they have made very plain. They appear prepared to let him go.
If Greenwood goes the other way, United will be looking for at least a 50% discount on Bremer. This season, the 22-year-old has contributed 13 goals while on loan at Getafe.
