THE FUTURE CHANGES: Liverpool discuss buying goalkeeper Andriy Lunin in the summer for a fee of £30 million

Andriy Lunin, a custodian for Real Madrid who had an incredible 2023–24 season, is reportedly being courted by Liverpool.

Sport, via Paisley Gates, reports that Liverpool is thinking about pursuing Andriy Lunin. In light of the uncertainties surrounding the Ukrainian goalie’s future, the Reds have already initiated discussions with Real Madrid about a possible summer transfer.

Lunin became a member of the Spanish powerhouses in the summer of 2018. Although he did have a couple successful loan stints away from the team, the 25-year-old was never given much of a chance to play in their starting lineup. But Thibaut Courtois, the team’s first-choice custodian, was injured last season, which gave him an opportunity to show off his skills.

He had a fantastic season leading Real Madrid to the Champions League and La Liga victory. Courtois was benched as a result of his return prior to the championship. Lunin’s contract is about to expire, and Carlo Ancelotti’s team has extended an offer to him.

With the Belgian international still at the top of his game, they have made it plain that he will remain the backup goalie. Because of this, he has not committed to the team for the future and may decide to leave in quest of consistent first-team play.

Among the teams rumoured to be interested in the Real Madrid custodian is Liverpool. Alisson Becker, a Brazilian international, is on their roster, although he is been connected to a high-profile move to Saudi Arabia. Lunin is being considered as a possible substitute for their first-choice shot-blocker.

The Reds have already had discussions with Los Blancos in an attempt to learn more about the operation’s cost. The report suggests the Ukrainian goalkeeper could cost around £30 million which does sound to be quite an affordable price for the Merseyside club given the quality of the player.

Meanwhile, Lunin is open to joining a Champions League club if they are willing to offer him the number one role. So, if Becker does end up leaving, there are high chances of Lunin being his replacement.
