The Heartwarming Comeback of Nunez to Uruguay for a Charity Match 🇺🇾⚽

Darwin Nunez returned to the stage over the weekend with a performance as part of a charity event in his hometown of Artias, Peru.

Nunez missed the final three games of the season at Liverpool due to a toe injury, and thus was not included on Marcello Bielsa’s initial Uruguayan squad.

His refusal to play in upcoming friendlies against Nicaragua and Cuba, though, wasn’t because of any fitness concerns; the former Leeds manager has instead named an experienced squad to test out new players.

The decision has permitted Nunez took a lengthy break before the start of the preseason on July 8 in Massachusetts, and the striker has already returned to his native Uruguay.

On Sunday, he participated in a charity event in his hometown of Artias to gather food and clothing for underprivileged families in the region.

Nunez entered the Estadio Matias Gonzalez wearing the No to rapturous applause from a large audience. 9 shirts and thank you notes to fans.

Tickets for the same event, which featured a team assembled by Nunez against Club Atlántico Artias, were available in exchange for food donations or coats.

After saying the same, the 23-year-old told Telenoche, “The fact is that I’m really happy.

“It is sоmething ᴠеry nice tо sее аll thеsе реoрlе whо come tо suррort thе bеnеfit ɡаme, with thе bоys whо came оut champions.

“I lоᴠe coming tо my lаnd, аnd аlwаys bеing аblе tо dо my bit tо hеlp.”

Nunez stated that he hadn’t played at the Estadio Matias Gónzales in six years when he left Uruguay for Portugal in 2019 following his breakthrough at Penarol in Montevideo.

He said, “I hope one day, when I retire, to return to Artias and be able to play here and enjoy my family.”
