NEW Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim is getting a lot of attention, but he didn’t tell Manchester shoppers anything.
The Portuguese boss walked through the busy town center without being seen, which is pretty amazing.
The 39-year-old former manager of Sporting Lisbon came to the city last week to a lot of attention and even did his first interview.
He will be publicly introduced next week, as long as everything goes well with his work permit.
But even though Amorim’s beard is well-known, no one seemed to notice as he walked down the street with a smile on their face.
He was wearing a black fur jacket over a white shirt with the hood up, which made him stand out.
The 14-times-capped midfielder was with a small group of people who were all dressed very casually.
The group looks so calm that you wouldn’t even know Amorim is taking on one of the most important and prestigious jobs in sports.
He won’t be a secret shopper in the transfer market because United is so well-known around the world that it will be hard for him to find any deals.
Right away, he’ll be one of the most recognizable people in the country.
So maybe it’s not surprising that he seemed to enjoy his brief freedom of speech on a busy Manchester street.
Erik ten Hag was fired, and Amorim has been hired to replace him. The club’s minority owner, Jim Ratcliffe, has asked Amorim to bring back the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson’s rule from 1986 to 2013.
He’s scheduled to be in charge of training for the first time next week, as long as all the appropriate paperwork gets taken care of.
At the moment, Amorim is staying at the five-star Lowry Hotel near Old Trafford. He can’t wait to share his ideas with his new team after the international break.
He already told them that he wants them to go on a stadium tour to boost their spirits and “put strength back into the team.”
Next, he will play his first two games, one in the Europa League at home against Bodo-Glimt and one in the Premier League away at Ipswich.
After that, Amorim will have gone from being asked, “Man who?” to being someone who can’t fail, or he’ll be the 10th permanent or temporary manager to leave Old Trafford since Ferguson left.
