The midfielder for Manchester City, Rodri, thinks that Lionel Messi will win the Ballon d’Or this year, even though Erling Haaland got goals for his team.
In his first season with City, Haaland hit 52 goals, which helped them win a historic treble.
After coming from Borussia Dortmund, he broke a lot of records, and by the end of the season, he had won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League. He scored the goal that won City their first Champions League game against Inter Milan in Istanbul.
After a great season, the former Atletico Madrid midfielder is expected to be in the top ten, but he doesn’t think Haaland will win the award.
Rodri asked, “Who’s going to win the Ballon d’Or? Is it going to be… Lionel Messi is likely to win, in my opinion.SPORT in Spain has already said that Messi will win for the eighth time after finally winning the World Cup with Argentina.
Didier Drogba will host an event on October 30 at the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris to name the winner.
Before he moved to Inter Miami in the summer, Messi was a player in Europe. He is now in line to become the first player from outside of Europe to win the award. After a great World Cup where he scored seven goals and won the Golden Ball, the 36-year-old is clearly the favorite.
Even though Haaland had a great year, his coach in Norway, Stale Solbakken, doesn’t think he will win.
In September, he told the Norwegian news site VG, “If you ask me who I think will win, I’ll say Messi because he won the World Cup.” It still makes a difference.
For his part, Messi doesn’t care too much about the result; he already has an impressive seven.
He said this about the award: “If it comes, that’s great; if it doesn’t, nothing happens.” During my career, I was lucky to reach all of my goals. Now I have new ones with this club.
