Everyone was talking about the video clip from Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Alaves in which Robert Lewandowski got very angry at Lamine Yamal.
While these pictures quickly went viral on social media, Mundo Deportivo photographer Pere Punti caught an important next part of the story.
There’s more than meets the eye
In the 78th minute, Lewandowski scored the second goal for Barcelona by converting a penalty.
After celebrating with his friends, including Yamal, the more experienced player went up to the younger one to have a private chat.
Soon after, as they got closer to the middle of the field, they started talking in a calm voice, without any anger or stress.
Besides the first pictures that went viral and caused a lot of gossip, they actually acted more calmly with each other.
The caught moment gives the story more depth by focusing on the happy ending and friendly conversation between the characters after what seemed like an earlier slight.
But what did really happen?
In the 72nd minute, with the score tied at 1-1, Yamal was in a good spot to pass the ball to Lewandowski, which could have led to a goal.
The young player could have received a pass, but instead, he decided to go alone, and the Alaves goalkeeper blocked his shot.
Lewandowski told Yamal that he didn’t agree with his choice, looking clearly angry and pointing at the child.
Things did not get better from there. After what happened, Yamal went up to Lewandowski and offered to shake his hand as a way to make things right. But the senior, who had a serious face, walked right past the young player from Barcelona.
But after the winning goal, they got along again, and Barcelona will hope that the situation doesn’t get worse like it did after Ilkay Gundogan’s statement.
