Cole Palmer’s response to the massive fight that ended their tie with Nottingham Forest won over Chelsea supporters.
In the 89th minute, players from both teams got into a fight on the touchline.
As tempers flared, coaching staff members also hurried out of the dugout to try to diffuse the situation.
An argument between Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella and Forest’s Neco Williams had set off the brawl.
Williams sent Blues manager Enzo Maresca flying by pushing Cucurella into him.
Nicolas Jackson seemed to slap Forest defender Morato during the altercation.
Nevertheless, Palmer avoided any problems; video captured from the stands shows him observing the action before collapsing to the ground.
As soon as fans noticed that the playmaker was sitting on the ground, waiting for the fight to end, they reacted quickly on social media.
One admirer commented on Palmer’s response, saying, “Look at Palmer man, not a single thought in his head.”
Others, though, soon noticed that his reserved response might have had a purpose.
“He was booked at the time, going into a fight was a sure fire way to get a red,” said a another admirer.
“He wasn’t wanting to risk it because he was already on a yellow,” a third person said.
Another responded in the meantime: “Really a lot of thoughts ffs. enough awareness to understand that he already owns a yellow.”
In the 75th minute, Palmer received a booking for pushing and shoving prior to a Forest free-kick.
In addition, the visitors were reduced to 10 players after James Ward-Prowse’s second yellow card.
Referee Chris Kavanagh booked Williams, Cucurella, and Levi Colwill prior to the game’s restart, even though Palmer did not get involved.
It ended 1-1 at Stamford Bridge, though, as neither team could produce a winner.
Palmer increased the number of goals he has contributed to by helping Noni Madueke cancel off Chris Wood’s first goal.
After his four-goal performance against, he now has five assists and six goals in seven league games this season.
