UNSUBMITTED: Scott McTominay was resilient as he played solidly but Scotland were still eliminated – McTominay delved into 11 ground duels and came out on top five times

The game appeared to be heading for a stalemate, with both teams struggling to hit the back of the net at the Stuttgart Arena.

However, in the 100th minute of play, Kevin Csoboth broke the tie.

Scotland sent bodies forward after being handed a corner. The set-piece resulted in a large tangle of bodies inside the Hungarian box. Marco Rossi’s troops broke rapidly upfield before the ball reached Rolland Sallai on the right, who had plenty of space to work with.

Sallai expertly chose his target and found an unmarked Csoboth, who comfortably scored from close range, breaking the hearts of all Scotland supporters.

The Tartan Army are currently out of the competition, having placed last in their group with only one point after three games.

McTominay played the whole 90 minutes, including extra time. During his time on the pitch, the United midfielder attempted two dribbles and finished only one.

He had 34 ball touches and connected with his teammates on 11 of the 15 passes he attempted, for a 73% individual pass accuracy rate.

The 27-year-old attempted to reach his target with a cross and a long ball. He made a successful connection with the single long ball he pinged.

McTominay took part in 11 ground duels and won five of them. Aerially, he was forced to compete in five tasks against Hungary players. He was only beaten on two occasions.

The Carrington Academy graduate earned two fouls while making half as many tackles.

He was exceptionally quiet in front of goal for Scotland, failing to register a single shot, either on or off target.

McTominay will most likely take a break as he prepares to return to United, just in time for the club’s preseason trip.
