Former France, Real Madrid, and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has retired from the game. His age is thirty-one.
Varane joined the Italian team Como in July on a free transfer, but he suffered a knee injury in his debut match against Sampdoria last month.
The centre defender says he won’t play, but he will remain with the group.
He posted on the app, “I hold myself to the highest standard, I want to go out strong, not just holding on to the game.” “Listening to your heart and instinct requires a lot of courage.”
Varane played with Lens in France throughout his formative years, but he was only a member of the first squad for one season before heading to Real Madrid in 2011.
He won 18 trophies in his ten years in the Spanish city, including three La Liga championships and four Champions Leagues.
In the summer of 2021, the defender made a £34 million move to Old Trafford, where he appeared 95 times across all competitions.
In May, he played his final game for the team when they defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley. He won the Carabao Cup in 2022.
After making his debut for France in 2013, Varane has earned 93 caps. He led France to the Nations League championship and the 2022 World Cup final in 2021, and he assisted France in winning the World Cup in 2018.
He then on, “I have risen and fallen a thousand times, and now is the time to hang up my boots and celebrate my final game winning a trophy at Wembley.”
“There is nothing about what I did that I would change. Beyond all the accolades and recognition I have received, I am most proud of my integrity and my efforts to leave things in a better state than when I found them. I hope I’ve made all of you proud.
