Vinicius Jr. told Brazil fans he was sorry after their embarrassing 1-0 loss to Paraguay on Tuesday.
The Selecao lost their fourth out of five South American (CONMEBOL) World Cup qualifying games, leaving them in fifth place in their group. They were also eliminated from the Copa America in the quarterfinals this summer.
They had a strong team, with Rodrygo, Endrick, and Vinicius from Real Madrid playing in the front three. Other players like Alisson, Bruno Guimaraes, and Marquinhos were also on the pitch.
After the fight, which was ended by Diego Gomez’s goal in the first half, Vinicius was sad and asked the people to keep cheering for the team.
The forward told the Brazilian TV station Globo, “I want to apologise to the fans. I know it’s a hard time, but we just want to get better.”
“Games go faster over there than over here.” Because of the field, the ball comes in faster, so we have to change how we play to win games.
“I’m sorry, fans. Please forgive me.” I understand that things are tough right now, but we will be back.
Vinicius has had a rough time with the national team lately. The Real Madrid star has only scored five goals in 35 appearances, even though he has scored more than 20 goals for Real Madrid in each of the last three seasons.
The 24-year-old player knew he had to do better, but he believed in his ability to get back on track.
“I know how good I am and what I can do for the national team,” he said. “Yes, it’s been a tough process because you can’t reach your goals if you don’t believe in yourself.”
Dorival Jnr became manager of Brazil in January, but he has only won four of his 10 games in charge. This is despite taking them to a memorable win against England in March.
Marquinhos, a star player for PSG with 91 caps, said that things weren’t going well right now but that the players were eager to make things better.
“The coach is still trying to figure out how to best lead us,” he told Globo. “That shows in the result.” “We don’t have enough confidence because there are so many new players.”
“It’s not easy to qualify; it’s a tough time that we need to know how to handle.” We’re not sure of ourselves because it’s a time of change.
“We’re going to work hard, and the best answer is to do well on the pitch.”
