Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. did a fantastic job honoring team legend and football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, and supporters reacted well on social media.

 

Eden Hazard’s departure from Los Blancos earlier this summer meant that Vinicius was given the coveted No. 7 jersey. Legendary sportsmen like Raul and Ronaldo have previously donned the shirt.

After Raul left in 2010, the No. 7 jersey was given to Cristiano Ronaldo, who had joined the team from Manchester United in 2009. After donning the shirt, he went on to become a Real Madrid legend.

The Portuguese is Los Blancos’ all-time leading scorer with 450 goals in 438 games. He played a major role in the four UEFA Champions League championships that the Spanish powerhouses won, among other things.

Over the years, football players like Vinicius have looked up to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner for inspiration. The Brazilian winger was spotted wearing a big silver pendant that looked like a “7” recently. The reverse of the pendant included multiple tiny engravings of Cristiano Ronaldo’s well-known “SIUUU” celebration.

Following Vinicius’ incredible tribute to the Portuguese ace, Twitter users commented. One wrote:
