Jamie Redknapp claims Andre Onana has made one of the best saves in the Premier League this season.
The Ruben Amorim era got off to a flying start at Portman Road when Marcus Rashford gave the visitors the lead after just two minutes. Despite taking an early lead, United were poor for much of the first half and conceded just before half-time when Omari Hutchinson’s deflected shot was deflected in.
The hosts had a chance to equalise just before Ipswich equalised but were denied by a superb save from goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Cameroonian was just yards out when he brilliantly parried a shot from the edge of the area.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer told BBC Radio 5 Live: “That was a world-class save from Andre Onana. I’m not sure if it hit his head or his hand. Liam Delap didn’t do much wrong, he tried to get the ball towards the near post at speed but Onana came out to block it.”
Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “It was the save of the season. It was an unbelievable save. The Ipswich player should have scored but it was an unbelievable save, unbelievable. Delap thought he had scored but Onana said no.”
Onana’s save was applauded by new United manager Ruben Amorim. The 39-year-old was certainly pleased with what his players showed.
