On his senior start, Marc Guiu, a young star player for Barcelona, had a magical moment that won the game for his team against Athletic Bilbao. The 17-year-old took over for Fermin Lopez in the 79th minute and scored the first and last goals with just his third touch of the game, 33 seconds after coming on.
When João Félix picked up the ball in the other team’s half, he cut the defense apart and set up the raging Guiu for a simple tap-in that went past Unai Simon in goal for Bilbao. La Masia and Xavi Hernandez have once again found a hidden gem. Though Robert Lewandowski wasn’t playing, the 2006-born prospect won the Man of the Match award for his game-changing showing.
As expected, the celebrations after the goal were very happy, and his teammates joined him in the corner to praise his great start to his senior Barcelona career. The camera moved to Blaugrana stars Frenkie de Jong and Lewandowski, who got up to applaud the goal scorer. But the footage of the night also showed Guiu’s family crying as he scored on his debut.
How Guiu’s family felt when he scored his first goal for Barcelona
The dream starts. His family would have been shocked when they saw him walk out on the field for the first time, even without the game-winning goal for him. There was no doubt that his mother was crying tears of joy, and his father was standing up and cheering. This kind of thing doesn’t happen very often, and you can see how much it’s hurt his family.
But what a moment for someone so young! Barcelona might have found a real star. In the video below, you can see the whole touching response of his family:
When Cadena SER caught up with Guiu’s dad, Manel, after the game, they talked about what an amazing experience it had been.
