Matthijs de Ligt was very angry with how he played against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday, and he didn’t do anything better against Germany on Tuesday night.
The Manchester United back said his game over the weekend was terrible, and he had another bad game in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw.
The back was given another chance by manager Ronald Koeman, but he helped the Germans score in the first half.
After the Netherlands went ahead 1-0, De Ligt lost the ball in his half. Deniz Undav scored to tie the game.
He didn’t get any praise for Germany’s second goal either, and his team was behind 2-1 at halftime.
That was the end of De Ligt’s night; Brighton’s Jan-Paul van Hecke took his place.
Fans naturally had a lot to say about the new United player on social media.
One person wrote, “Everything was under control, and then Matthijs de Ligt made such a stupid mistake. This is unacceptable.” I care about him, but he keeps making the same mistakes in his work, and it looks like he never will.
“Dutch lost a goal because De Ligt gave the ball away,” said someone else. “That was a shocker from him.”
Some people laughed and said he looked like Harry Maguire or that he had been to a “mare.”
When asked about his play against Bosnia and Herzegovina over the weekend, De Ligt said, “I think you know how I feel. We won, but then comes the individual part.”
“I know I could have done better on their second goal.” I’m not sure what happened. I knew I should have cleared the ball, but I kept having doubts as the game went on.
“What if this game is a chance I missed?” I just do my best, I don’t know.
De Ligt made mistakes, but Ronald Koeman, the manager of the Netherlands, said it was important not to think about them too much going forward.
“He knows that he was in the wrong place,” she said. The ex-Everton manager explained.
This shouldn’t happen, but that’s just how football works. It’s not fair to make a big deal of it, in my opinion.
Even though De Ligt was a big deal when he arrived at Manchester United from Bayern Munich this summer, he only played a few minutes in his first two games because Erik ten Hag preferred Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire as a defense pair.
The Dutch player got his first taste of the Premier League when he started at the beginning of September. In a 3-0 win at Old Trafford, Liverpool dominated the game.
Soon after getting a yellow card in the second half, Ten Hag decided to replace him with Maguire, so De Ligt has still not played all 90 minutes for United.
