Wayne Rooney has won yet another award, adding to his long list of accomplishments.
Wayne, 38, scored more goals than anyone else in United’s history. He also broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s record for England goals scored in 2015, but Harry Kane beat him last year.
Now, the legendary striker has been honored by Legends of Football. This is a yearly awards show put on by the Nordoff and Robbins music therapy charity that brings together the biggest names in football and music to honor the best players.
“Best night in the football social calendar” is what Sir Alex Ferguson called the event, and this year’s ceremony honors Fara Williams, the former Everton star and England’s most played women’s player.
The manager of Plymouth went to the gala at Grosvenor House in London with his wife Coleen and their son Kai, who is going to the same United school as his dad.
Before getting the award, Wayne said, “I am thrilled to receive the 2024 Legends of Football award.”
“The award has been given to some of the biggest names in football in the past. To be recognized with them, including some of my teammates, opponents, and football legends, means a lot.”
“Music has been a huge influence and inspiration in my life and career, and seeing how Nordoff and Robbins use it to help people connect and talk to each other is truly amazing.”
“I’m really looking forward to celebrating with Fara for a great night of football, music and fundraising.”
Kelly Cates and Geoff Shreeves hosted the event, which also had former England manager Roy Hodgson, Everton manager Sean Dyche, and Lionesses star and I’m A Celebrity winner Jill Scott among other famous people.
Rooney played 559 times for Manchester United over 13 years and scored 253 goals and set up 139 others. He left the club in 2017.
The famous forward also scored 53 goals in 120 games for England.
Kai, 14, is now winning over his dad’s fans after a string of great games with the Red Devils’ youth teams.
