Robert Lewandowski said that Sunday’s 3-0 thrashing of Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano may have been one of his best performances for FC Barcelona.
The Pole, who was written off by many earlier in the season, continued his run of excellent play in Barca’s final La Liga game before the international break.
During a brief post-match interview with DAZN Espana, the veteran was in excellent spirits and rightfully received the MVP award for his two goals and an assist against Diego Simeone’s team.
“It could be,” he responded when asked if his performance this past weekend was among his greatest since signing from Bayern Munich in 2022.
“We performed incredibly well. We controlled the game and managed to score three goals on this very challenging ground.”
Overall, Barca appears to have improved, and Lewandowski outlined some potential causes for the uptick, which appears to have been spurred on by Tuesday’s Champions League quarterfinal qualification.
“We have slightly modified and increased the intensity of the exercise in the last few weeks. I think my teammates feel [very good] as much as I do. This is how it’s gotta be after the [international] break. Now is the moment to act.”
Lewandowski stated that he must mentor the team’s rookies, who include Fermin Lopez, Lamine Yamal, and Pau Cubarsi, to mention a few. He has been observed doing so continuously.
“But I also need them to help me by passing the ball or sending crosses,” he quipped.
