When Ruben Amorim got to Manchester United’s Carrington training ground on Monday afternoon, he was greeted by top club officials.
The Portuguese official was met at the club’s training facility by CEO Omar Berrada. He had been escorted by police from Manchester Airport, where he arrived around 2:00 p.m.
As he shook hands with Berrada and hugged the executive, Amorim smiled widely. He was also seen talking with sports director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.
Manchester United has also announced that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. He was Erik ten Hag’s assistant and has been acting as interim manager since then. Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel have also left the club.
“It’s not just Carrington.” Man United wrote on X, “It’s home.” “Welcome to our training ground, Ruben Amorim!”
On Monday morning, Amorim took a private trip with five of his assistants. They will be working with him on his new project.
On the trip from Beja at 11 a.m., Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Paulo Barreira, Emanuel Ferro, and Jorge Vital all joined Amorim.
On Monday afternoon around 2 p.m., the plane touched down at Manchester Airport, after being tracked live by thousands of fans.
He had a fairy tale goodbye at Sporting on Sunday night, less than 12 hours before flying off to start his new job with the Red Devils. The Portuguese club came back from being down two goals to beat Braga 4–2.
The 39-year-old head coach is now focused on Manchester United. One of his first jobs was to talk to Van Nistelrooy about important things.
After Sunday’s game against Braga, Amorim said he would talk to the Manchester United star about his future. He also praised the Dutchman for doing a “great job” with the Red Devils after Erik ten Hag was fired.
Van Nistelrooy took over as acting manager at Old Trafford at the end of October. In his four games in charge, United won all four and tied one.
His most recent win was on Sunday, when Man United beat Leicester City 3-0.
After his last game as Sporting manager, Amorim told reporters about Van Nistelrooy’s role: “About a legend of the club.” He did a wonderful job. I need to talk to him on Monday.
“Then I’ll tell you everything.” I’ll be honest and tell you the truth. He also said, “Let’s wait until tomorrow.”
Fans of Manchester United had hoped that Van Nistelrooy, 48, would stay at Old Trafford in some way, but he wouldn’t say anything about his plans, so he has now left.
The club said in a statement, “Ruud is and always will be a Manchester United legend.”
“We appreciate what he has done for the club and how he has gone about his job during his time there.” At Old Trafford, he will always be very welcome.
Carlos Fernandes, Amorim’s backup goalkeeper who was seen getting on the plane on Monday, said goodbye to Sporting fans with tears in his eyes and pretty much revealed that he would be joining Manchester United.
Amorim has been working with Fernandes since the beginning of his job as a coach, long before he became the new manager of Manchester United.
This coach is part of a new group of people who have never played professional sports and have been teaching since they were teenagers.
Asst. manager wrote on Instagram, “The adventure that changed my life…so many moments that I will cherish forever.” We will always be grateful to the players who made this possible, our coworkers who became friends, and everyone who has backed us. Thank you very much!
Even though everyone is looking forward to Amorim’s coming, he won’t be able to start working at Manchester United until he gets a work permit.
Mail Sport claimed late Sunday night that Amorim is still waiting for the paperwork to be processed. United sources say that this means he can’t start his new job or “get his feet on the grass.”
Even without Amorim, most of the players will be away on international service. His first game won’t be until November 24, when he plays Ipswich at Portman Road.
The media won’t be able to see him until his pre-game press conference for that game, but he is likely to talk to United’s own TV outlet before then.
Before Ten Hag was fired, the Red Devils fell to 14th place in the Premier League. Since then, they’ve only moved up one spot, but Van Nistelrooy has led them to an amazing run that has put them only four points behind third place.
After losing 2-1 to West Ham last month, Ten Hag’s last game in charge, United has beaten Leicester in both the Carabao Cup and the Premier League. They have also tied 1-1 with Chelsea and beaten PAOK 2-0 in Europe.
Before playing Ipswich on November 24, Amorim will have the whole international break to get used to life at Old Trafford. Last week, when his Sporting Lisbon team beat Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League, he made the right statement to Red Devils fans.
