When Jude Bellingham scored in Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Girona on Saturday, he matched a goal record set by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bellingham scored in the 71st minute of the La Liga match as Los Blancos defeated the Catalan team with three unanswered goals.
The midfielder’s goal gave him six goals in his first seven league games for Los Blancos, matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s total from his first season with the team in 2009–10.
The 20-year-old moves level with the Real Madrid icon as the player with the best scoring start to a Real Madrid career in the twenty-first century.
Four of his first seven goals came from Ruud van Nistelrooy. Bellingham also scored once in the Champions League this year, giving him a total of seven goals throughout all competitions since his summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
Against Girona, Joselu scored the first goal before Aurelien Tchouameni extended the advantage for the visitors. Bellingham then added a third goal in the second half.
“The night was really comprehensive. Winning here implies we did well, and I want to emphasize how excellent our defense was. Ancelotti told reporters after the game, “We had the chance to cause issues with the ball, and defending properly was crucial because Girona plays good football.
Given that Tchouameni was in the middle, “We put Bellingham on the outside to prevent Vinicius [Junior] from having too many defensive tasks. Bellingham continued, “It was a significant victory. They were prospering greatly. We sent La Liga a letter of intent. Three goals, perfect record.
“I feel fantastic. I can move around freely while watching football. Every time I wear this shirt, I make an effort to be at my best.
“It’s a decent beginning. I would like to keep going in this direction, and while I may not always provide a goal or an assist, I will always do my best.
Bellingham made it known that he only wanted to move to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window, despite being reportedly wanted by Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City.
The midfielder is now getting ready to depart with the Los Blancos squad to Italy for their second match in the group stage of the 2023-24 Champions League against Napoli.
