Xavi and Deco identified 16-year-old Barcelona prodigy Marc Bernal as La Masia’s most talented midfielder

The La Masia Academy in Barcelona has become one of the best football academies in the world over the past few years.

A lot of times, its graduates have helped Xavi Hernandez’s team get out of tough spots. It’s clear that the quality of the players graduating is getting better.

La Masia made a big splash when Ansu Fati made his name with the first team. He is from the same generation as Riqui Puig and Carles Alena.

Since then, no one has come back. Gavi, Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, and Alejandro Balde have all made a name for themselves.

What’s next?

The newspaper Mundo Deportivo says that Xavi Hernandez and Deco are already looking at La Masia’s next big star.

Marc Bernal, la promesa de Berga que despunta al Barça - Aquí Berguedà

Bernal was the leader of Barcelona’s Cadet A team a few months ago. He has, however, already been promoted to Barça Atletic.

Rafa Marquez’s team has even had him play six games.

One to last a long time

Bernal is only 16 years old, so he is still very much in the childhood stage. One thing that gives him an edge over his peers is that Xavi’s team doesn’t have many players who can play the role he’s trying to get.

It is no secret that Bernal is not a good fit to replace Sergio Busquets, who left Barcelona. Busquets was a holding midfielder.

The young player could be the Catalans’ long-term answer in the defensive middle. He also has a knack for getting goals, which isn’t something that usually comes with players in his position.
