Even though they didn’t play their best, Barcelona beat Athletic Club 1-0 at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday night. With the win, Barcelona is now only one point behind Real Madrid and Girona at the top of the L Liga table.
Marc Guiu scored the game’s only goal. After being set up by Joao Felix, the 17-year-old made his first team bow and fired past Unai Simon. He had only been on the field for a few seconds.
According to Marca, Xavi Hernandez talked about the game after it was over and how happy he was with Guiu’s winning goal and appearance.
“The win was earned through hard work. We knew that Athletic would be a tough team to play. They’re very brave. Marc, a kid from La Masia, is what makes the difference. I’m glad for him and the three important things.
“I’ve thought about him because he has a goal and a spark, and I like him as a person.” I have no problem looking to the school; in fact, I quite like it. You can trust me because Barcelona did when I was 17 to 18 years old.
Now Barcelona can look forward to their Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday and their Clasico foes Real Madrid next weekend.
