Xavi talked about how little Vitor Roque plays for Barcelona while the Brazilian was linked with a trade for Mason Greenwood.
The Barcelona manager talked about why the Brazilian forward hasn’t played much since he joined the team in January. Since coming from Athletico Paranaense to La Liga, the 19-year-old has played in 11 league games for Xavi but has only played for 276 minutes.
The Catalan giants are reportedly looking to loan out the player during the summer transfer window. However, the player’s agent has made it clear that his client would only consider leaving if he is sold permanently.
The 2022–23 La Liga winners are also thinking about trading him for Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, whose play has been so good for Getafe this season. But Xavi says Roque just needs time to get used to the way things are done at Barcelona.
The boss of the Catalan team told reporters, “That’s how we planned it.” We didn’t plan for him to come so soon; we thought he’d come in the summer so he could keep learning how to play. Then we decided it was best for both the club and him. Because Gavi and Balde were hurt, we were able to bring him in so he could train, get to know the club and his teammates, and then play with his teammates.
“I don’t get the argument. He’s getting better. Those who are ahead of him are in better shape, which is why he plays less football. It’s always been like this for me.”
